What distinguishes the Optimate 4 Quad from other battery chargers is its compatibility with motorcycles that use a CAN-bus system. This means you can connect the charger directly to the dashboard connection for electrical devices (such as a cigarette plug or DIN plug, for BMW). This version of the Optimate 4 Quad does not come with a DIN plug as standard. Normally, the connection is disconnected by the CAN-bus system after a few seconds when the engine is switched off, but due to the special program in the Optimate 4 Quad, the connection remains active, allowing you to charge the battery without problems or damage to the system.

PLEASE NOTE: The SAE-72 DIN plug can be easily ordered separately (see 2nd image). You need this plug to connect the Optimate 4 Dual via the dashboard connection. For motorcycles like BMW and Triumph, the Optimate 4 Quad with DIN plug is cheaper and recommended.

The Optimate 4 Quad is suitable for motorcycles with a CAN-bus system as well as for regular motorcycles (easy to switch via the Optimate 4 Dual's program). This battery charger can be used for all types of batteries, except Lithium, regardless of the brand (Yuasa, Varta, Bosch, QMP, Nitro, Exide, Landport, etc.).

CAN-bus and Battery Chargers:

Modern motorcycles are often equipped with a CAN-bus system, which controls component operation via a single communication line. On motorcycles like BMW from 2006, the mini cigarette plug is normally shut off by the motorcycle's software after about 30 seconds. The Optimate 4 Quad has special software that keeps the plug active, allowing you to charge the battery without problems. If the Optimate 4 Quad is connected directly to the battery, the Optimate 3+ is also sufficient.
