This trickle charger and battery conditioner from Tecmate, which we offer, is essential to keep your motorcycle battery in optimal condition during the winter. What sets the Optimate 4 Quad apart from other battery chargers is its compatibility with motorcycles that use a can-bus system. This means that you can connect the charger directly to the dashboard connection for electrical devices (such as a cigarette lighter plug or DIN plug, for BMW). With this version of the Optimate 4 Quad, the DIN plug is not supplied as standard. Normally, the connection is broken after a few seconds by the canbus system when the engine is switched off, but due to the special program in the Optimate 4 Quad, the connection remains active, so that you can charge the battery without any problems and without damaging the system.

NOTE: The SAE-72 DIN plug can easily be ordered (see 2nd image). You need this plug to connect the Optimate 4 Dual via the dashboard connection. For motorcycles such as BMW and Triumph, the Optimate 4 Quad with DIN plug is cheaper and recommended.

The Optimate 4 Quad is suitable for both motorcycles with a can-bus system and for regular motorcycles (easy to switch via the Optimate 4 Dual program). Canbus and Battery Chargers:
Modern motorcycles are often equipped with a canbus system, which controls the control of components via a single communication line. In motorcycles such as BMW from 2006 onwards, the mini cigarette plug is normally closed by the software of the motorcycle after about 30 seconds. The Optimate 4 Quad has special software that ensures that the plug remains active, so that you can charge the battery without any problems. If the Optimate 4 Quad is connected directly to the battery, the Optimate 3+ is also sufficient.
